Crestfallen Warrior

Description

Strategy

If you do make him hostile early on and you are having trouble killing him, you can just block all of his attacks and walk him over to the cliffs near the Firelink Shrine bonfire. Here you can wait for him to jump off of the cliff or you can kick him off the cliff. As he does not drop any item nor does he have any effect on other NPC's story, you do not need to worry about killing him by kicking him off the cliff as he only drops souls. Be wary that he is one of the NPCs who can parry. He usually attempts to parry you when he holds his shield up.

Knight Lautrec of Carim

Description

A knight from Carim and a devout of the goddess Fina. His love for Fina makes him a psychopath who doesn't care about other people and readily kills them after they served their purposes.

Location

Undead Parish
Locked in a cell located on the upper floor of the church. Before climbing the ladder that leads to the Bell Gargoyles, continue counter-clockwise around the top floor. After fighting a Balder Knight, there is a broken door that can be smashed, revealing a staircase. Go up the stairs to find Lautrec's cell. The cell can be opened using the Mystery Key or a Master Key. This encounter is optional.

Anor Londo

Notes

Before he kills Anastacia of Astora

If you do not want the Dingy Set or Set of Favor you can kill him before he murders the fire keeper:

Finding Lautrec in Anor Londo

After ringing the second Bell of Awakening, check Anastacia's cell to get the Black Eye Orb. When you enter the chamber containing the two Royal Sentinels before the boss room, you will get a message saying the Black Eye Orb is quivering. Simply use the item and you will invade his world where you will find him with his guards.

You do not need to clear the room first, it does not matter if the boss has been defeated, and regardless of the outcome you will simply return to where you used the Black Eye Orb with nothing lost. You can try as many times as necessary.

Once he is defeated you can return the Fire Keeper Soul to Anastacia's cell to restore her and the bonfire.

Dodging and Blocking

Lautrec's attacks will bypass your shield so there is almost no point in blocking him. Roll back from his attacks and otherwise avoid them as much as possible. Alternatively equip a very high resist armour, perhaps Iron Flesh, and just tank him.

Note that you CANNOT use Estus, but Miracles such as Heal, and items such as Humanity will still work.

Using the Ring of Fog you can walk further into the chamber without them noticing you, with the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring you can even get behind them to burst him down or backstab him.

Melee

Be careful of his guards, you do not have to kill them but doing so can make the fight a bit easier. As you cannot block, it is wise to two-hand a long range weapon such as a Spear or Halberd, get an attack in and roll back before he gets you into range.

A Zweihander's heavy attack can be used to kite him, using the stairs with this method will reduce the risk of his guards attacking you from the side.

Note if he equips his Parrying Dagger in his left hand and holds it up, he will attempt to parry you should you attack him.

If you have not taken out his guards with a bow (below) then eliminating at least the sorcerer should be relatively easy and then you won't have to worry about projectiles chasing you. He does not have a melee weapon so cannot retaliate, just be mindful of where Lautrec and the other guard are.

The spear-wielder is a typical enemy with a spear. Dispatch as you would a normal hollow (albeit one with a lot of health).

Environment

It's possible to get Lautrec stuck between the lever of the main door and the wall. The lever is located at the end of the room by Lautrec. Lure him into this area and he should remain stuck running face-first into the wall. He has to go fairly deep into the space for it to work. Roll out and deal with the other two so they don't stab you in the back, then finish him. This is easiest if you lure all three to you, then run over to the door. Lautrec is faster so will reach you before the other two.

If you lure them up the stairs and then stand on the stairs (with them now above you) most of their attacks will miss, allowing for an easy kill.

Ranged

The trio will not respond if you do not move from your starting position, even if you shoot them. Use Dragonslayer Arrows or Poison Arrows (cheaper) with an appropriate bow for either for a very easy fight. You can kill Lautrec immediately (the other two can be ignored) or kill off his guards for a 1-on-1.

If dueling Lautrec, you can simply roll back from his attacks and hit him with a ranged weapon, Sorcery or Miracle.

With the Soul Spear sorcery, you can lure them onto the stairs on either side of the room and hit all three with one shot.

Sieglinde of Catarina

Description

Sieglinde is the daughter of Siegmeyer of Catarina. She came to Lordran to look for her adventurous father. Some time before the events of the game, Sieglinde had been captured and imprisoned in a Golden Crystal Golem, presumably by Seath or his Channelers. She wore the same equipment as her father, the difference being she wields a Bastard Sword, while her father wields a Zweihander.

Sieglinde's Quest for Siegmeyer

Refer to Siegmeyer's page for the bulk of their storyline progression.

  1. The Duke's Archives - After talking to Siegmeyer at the Firelink Shrine and causing him to leave for Blighttown.
Her Golden Crystal Golem is in the middle of the garden in front of Crystal Cave's entrance, the garden with lots of other Crystal Golems. Kill the Golden Crystal Golem to free her, and talk to her. Either answer will move her to Firelink Shrine.
  2. Firelink Shrine - After you talk to her in The Duke's Archives.
She's standing near the bonfire. Speak with her. She will again ask if you have seen her father. If you reply 'Yes', she will move off again to find her father.
  3. Firelink Shrine - After you help Siegmeyer to survive Lost Izalith.
Same location as before. She will tell you that she has found her father and that he went off to one last adventure.
  4. Ash Lake - After you talk to her in Firelink Shrine the second time.
Final story event. She and Siegmeyer will be near the first bonfire. Talk to her to receive a Titanite Slab.

Siegmeyer of Catarina

Description

Siegmeyer is a knight from Catarina, who has come to Lordran seeking adventure and excitement, even if he isn't totally prepared for it and his daughter is against it. He is seen throughout the game and has various events which continue his story-line. He's often getting into trouble as he goes along, but always remains optimistic that somehow the obstacle will be overcome (usually by the Chosen Undead). He typically will be seen sleeping or meditating on his current problem, determined to continue his adventure, wherever it will take him.

Storyline

  1. Sen's Fortress - first encounter
He's sitting outside the closed gate of Sen's Fortress. This is the earliest possible encounter with him.
Note: This encounter is optional, however if you do not speak to him here or only speak to him once without exhausting his dialogue, there is a risk that it will bug the next encounter and prevent the quest from proceeding (He will sit in Sens Fortress forever, unable to speak).
  2. Sen's Fortress - after have you rung both Bells of Awakening
Sitting at the edge of a cliff, down from where the first rolling boulders are encountered, near the Shotel. Speak to him and redirect the rolling boulders away from the slope nearest to him. If you miss his first encounter, this encounter is mandatory.
  3. Anor Londo - after you redirect the boulder and travel to Anor Londo by examining the ring of light
When you reach the high courtyard with a Silver Knight (sword) and a Silver Knight (greatbow), go through the doorway guarded by the Silver Knight (sword). He will be standing in front of the window. Kill all three Silver Knights in the room in front of him, then speak to him. He'll give you Tiny Being's Ring.
  4. Firelink Shrine - after you kill the three Silver Knights in the previous encounter
Standing near the bonfire. He will ask you if you were the undead who opened the gates at Sen's Fortress. If you answer "Yes", he'll give you the Emit Force miracle. Once he leaves the Firelink Shrine for Blighttown, Sieglinde of Catarina's Golden Crystal Golem will spawn in The Duke's Archives.
  5. Blighttown - after speaking to him in Firelink Shrine
In the swamp, near the entrance to the area with the Server and lots of Giant Leeches. Talk to him to wake him up. He'll ask for some moss clumps. If you say "Yes", you'll give him 3 Purple Moss Clumps and he'll give you the Pierce Shield.
  6. Lost Izalith - after giving him Moss Clumps
In front of the Demon Ruins shortcut, down from where you fight Kirk and the Daughter of Chaos, there's an area with a crumbling floor. Walk around the back to see Siegmeyer overlooking a large hole with four Chaos Eaters below. Talk to him to trigger an event where he rushes down the hole to kill the Chaos Eaters. This is the trickiest encounter, see Strategy below to help you with this section. There's 3 possible outcomes in this encounter:
    • If the four Chaos Eaters are defeated before Siegmeyer leaps down, he will give you the Speckled Stoneplate Ring and his story will not continue.
    • If he survives the fight with less than 50% health, he appears to die from poison and drops the Speckled Stoneplate Ring and Humanity x3. His story will not continue.
    • If he survives the fight with equal or more than 50% health, his story will continue, but you won't get the Speckled Stoneplate Ring.
  7. Ash Lake - if he survives in Lost Izalith and you catch up with Sieglinde of Catarina's storyline
Final story event. He and Sieglinde will be near the first bonfire. Talk to Sieglinde to receive a Titanite Slab.

Summoning Events

To summon Solaire, the player has to be in Human form. A Golden Summon Sign (Warrior of Sunlight's summon sign) will be located right before a Boss' white fog door, allowing the player to summon Solaire.

Glitch (Xbox 360) (Xbox Live Marketplace version): When you summon Solaire before the Bell Gargoyles' door, and use him to kill other enemies in Undead Parish, Solaire will NOT follow you through the fog door. Combined with the Knight Lautrec not appearing glitch, this makes for a difficult situation best avoided, unless you want a challenge.

Area Boss Fight Location Condition to Appear
Undead Parish Bell Gargoyles In front of the boss fog None
Depths Gaping Dragon Near the stairs, two levels above the boss fog, on the other side of Lautrec's summon sign None
Anor Londo Dragon Slayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough On the staircase below the Greatbow Silver Knight None
Demon Ruins Centipede Demon Several steps in front of the boss fog, near the roots None
Kiln of the First Flame Gwyn, Lord of Cinder The top of the staircase, just after the third Black Knight, before turning right Save him in Lost Izalith

Solaire's Quest

These are the various encounters with Solaire, you have to talk to him in this particular order to be able to Summon him at the final boss fight of the game.

  1. Undead Burg
You'll first encounter Solaire in the Undead Burg. He is in the area at the opposite end of the bridge on which the Hellkite Dragon is perched. Talk to him at the bridge and accept his offer in order to get a White Sign Soapstone for online multiplayer play. It is possible that he disappears after you defeat the Bell Gargoyles. If this occurs, quitting the game and coming back will return him to the same area.
  2. Anor Londo
After speaking to him in the Undead Burg, you'll next be able to encounter him in Anor Londo. You'll find him next to the first bonfire after the two Silver Knight archers (the area commonly referred to as the Ledge of Death)
  3. Sunlight Altar - Optional
This one is optional and won't break his path through the game. After leaving Anor Londo, go to the Sunlight Altar in Undead Parish, and speak with him there. The Sunlight Altar is located to the right of the bonfire in the Undead Parish, right below the Hellkite Dragon's perch. The altar itself is in the area to the right of the bonfire where a broken statue is located. Go to that area and speak with Solaire who may prompt you to join the Warrior of Sunlight covenant should you meet the requirements for it.
  4. Just Before Lost Izalith
After the Centipede Demon boss fight, Solaire can be found in Demon Ruins, sitting near the bonfire after the boss room. You don't actually need to talk to him here, and several steps from Solaire is already Lost Izalith. Entering Lost Izalith here will make Solaire attack you in front of the Bed of Chaos boss fog if the red-eyed chaos bug is still alive. After killing Centipede Demon, go back and head to the Chaos Servant shortcut instead.
  5. Activate Shortcut to Lost Izalith
This shortcut can be found right before the Demon Firesage boss room by climbing down some large roots you can access through the large hole in the wall. In order to open this doorway, you must be a Chaos Servant +21 and then must touch the door itself. Be wary that if you kill The Fair Lady before you activate the shortcut, it will not open for you.
  6. The Chaos Bugs
There are nine Chaos Bugs in the shortcut area: eight normal, respawning ones, and one with glowing red-eyes. The red-eyed bug will drop a Sunlight Maggot when killed, and will not respawn; this one will need to be killed to prevent Solaire from going insane. If you return to the shortcut door after reaching Lost Izalith, Solaire will be waiting on the ground outside the door. He will be depressed over his quest for his "sun". Speaking with him here will allow you to summon him to help you during the final boss fight with Gwyn, Lord of Cinder.
Player Action Outcomes
Enter Lost Izalith by crossing the lava pools after the Centipede Demon Solaire goes insane and attacks you near the door to the Bed Of Chaos Boss Fight.
Enter Lost Izalith via the shortcut, but do not kill the red-eyed Chaos Bug Solaire goes insane and the next time you visit the shortcut area, he can be found there, hostile.
Enter Lost Izalith via the shortcut, kill2 the red-eyed Chaos Bug, and pick up the Sunlight Maggot Solaire shows up as normal (albeit depressed) just outside of the shortcut door and you can talk to him to trigger his final Summon Sign.
Do like the one above (up to find the Sunlight Maggot), but reach Kiln of the First Flame without speaking to Solaire before Lost Izalith Solaire's final summon sign does not appear.

If you reach Lost Izalith without killing the red-eyed Chaos Bug, Solaire will appear near the shortcut door (It does not matter if the shortcut has been opened or not) wearing the Sunlight Maggot. The sunlight maggot within the Chaos Bugs has burrowed into his mind; it has baited him into forfeiting his soul with the lure of his own personal sun. He is driven insane and presumably hollow upon being vanquished (he can still speak and does not have the Hollowed appearance, although this is maybe just the first step of going Hollow). This is one end to the story of Solaire.

Save Solaire without the Chaos Servant Covenant

Notes

Bug Notes

Sometimes Solaire still goes insane even if you kill the red-eyed Bug. If this happens to you, Solaire is lost this playthrough. Earlier reports suggest that you should kill all the bugs if you want to save Solaire, but this method is not 100% guaranteed to work either. Requesting Absolution from Oswald of Carim does not work. Just try again next playthrough with whatever method you feel best and hope the bug doesn't trigger.

To avoid the glitch it's suggested that you kill the Chaos Bug with the Sunlight Maggot BEFORE going through the Fog Door to the Firesage Demon. Either by opening the shortcut door with the Chaos Covenant method, or the Mist/Fog Method.

Dialogue

Undead Burg

First time speaking to him

Ah, hello! You don't look Hollow, far from it!
I am Solaire of Astora, an adherent of the Lord of Sunlight.
Now that I am Undead, I have come to this great land, the birthplace of Lord Gwyn, to seek my very own sun!
… Do you find that strange? Well, you should!
No need to hide your reaction. I get that look all the time!
Hah hah hah!

Speaking a second time after his introduction

Oh, ah hah! So, I didn't scare you?
I have a proposition, if you have a moment.

After depleting dialogue options

Oh, hello there. I will stay behind, to gaze at the sun.
The sun is a wondrous body. Like a magnificent father!
If only I could be so grossly incandescent!

Anor Londo

Speak to him

Oh, there you are.
You've been quiet these days.
Smooth summoning out there?
Anytime you see my brilliantly shining signature, do not hesitate to call upon me.
You've left me with quite an impression. I would relish a chance to assist you.

Secondary dialogue after first interaction

You really are fond of chatting with me, aren't you?
If I didn't know better, I'd think you had feelings for me!
Oh, no, dear me. Pretend you didn't hear that!
Hah hah hah!

Undead Burg - Altar of Sunlight

Speak to him when you meet the requirement to join the Warriors of Sunlight Covenant

Oh, hello there.
I'm glad to see you alive.
…You have done well, indeed you have.
You've a strong arm, strong faith, and most importantly, a strong heart.
I am in awe, really.
Yes, yes…
What do you think? Why not join me, as a warrior of the Sun?
Righteous knights, guardians of all that is good, in the name of the Lord of Sunlight!
…Only if it would please you, of course. Well?

Speak to him at the shrine (no covenant needed)

Hmm! Ah, oh…hello there.
Forgive me, I was just pondering…about my poor fortune.
I did not find my own sun, not in Anor Londo, nor in Twilight Blighttown.
Where else might my sun be? Lost Izalith, or the Tomb of the Gravelord… ?
But I cannot give up. I became Undead to pursue this!
But when I peer at the Sun up above, it occurs to me…
What if I am seen as a laughing stock, as a blind fool without reason?
Well, I suppose they wouldn't be far off!
Hah hah hah!

Footnotes
1. To reach this level, you must feed The Fair Lady 30 Humanities.
2. Killing the red-eyed Bug is a trigger itself. If you're in a New Game Plus and have a Sunlight Maggot from a previous playthrough, but you progress up to this point without killing the red-eyed Bug, Solaire will still be hostile.

Witch Beatrice

Description

Beatrice is a rogue witch. Unlike many catalyst-wielding sorcerers throughout the land, she did not learn her magic at the Vinheim Dragon School. Her catalyst's description heavily implies that she originates from a long legacy of witches, from which she presumably inherited her knowledge on sorceries.

The flow of time in Lordran is distorted. After helping the chosen undead fight the Four Kings, she tried to fight them herself, but died trying.

Andre of Astora

Description

A blacksmith residing in the old church building in Undead Parish. Specialized in physical path and Magic weapon enchantments using Faith

Location

Undead Parish
Next to the main church building is a stone bridge (guarded by 2 sword-wielding and 1 crossbow-wielding Undead Soldiers) that goes out towards the forest. Halfway through the bridge, you will hear metals clanging. Follow this path to a small structure (the old church). The old church has 3 floors, the top is a ruined temple, the middle floor has a bonfire and bridge to Sen's Fortress and the lowest level is where Andre will be working. Also down a short staircase from Andre is a large room with a Prowling Demon.

Vamos

Description

A skeletal blacksmith residing in the Catacombs. Specialized in fire enchantments.

Location

The Catacombs
At the end of the spiral staircase near the fourth Necromancer (who's guarding a switch), look below. You'll see an item glow, a Green Titanite Shard, on a corpse below. Drop down to it (don't roll, as you may overshoot and slip further down below and the fall damage might kill you). From the corpse, drop down to the broken wooden plank below, then enter the hole. After the cutscene, you can access Vamos' room from the Skeleton Wheel area.
In the Remastered version, a new bonfire has been added to the area, but it isn't recommended to rest at it early into the game, as it'll make the walk back to Firelink Shrine considerably more difficult.

Fire Keepers

Anastacia of Astora

A mute woman from a village in Astora, her tongue has been removed so that she can't say any god's name in vain. Anastacia is Firelink Shrine's Fire Keeper, bound to the bonfire to keep it lit.

Location

Use

"The Murderer" Quest Line

Knight Lautrec of Carim murders Anastacia when either one of the following occurs regardless if the player freed him or not:

If you check Anastacia’s cell, you find her dead body, her clothes, and the Black Eye Orb. The Firelink Shrine bonfire no longer functions.

The Black Eye Orb can be used in Anor Londo, in the large hall right outside of the Ornstein and Smough boss room. You have a message pop up that says the Black Eye Orb is reacting to something and should now be usable in that area. Use the Black Eye Orb to invade Lautrec’s world.

After you win, you receive her Fire Keeper Soul. You may use it like any other Fire Keeper Soul, but uniquely, if you go back to her cell in Firelink Shrine, you can revive Anastacia.

Fire Keepers

Quelaag's Sister

Description

Called "The Fair Lady" by her attendant Eingyi, she is nameless, but players have given her the name Quelaan. She is the saint of the Chaos Servant covenant. Blind, weak, and on the verge of death after swallowing the blight pus of the residents of Blighttown, she is completely immobile and was made the Fire Keeper of the nearby bonfire to keep her alive. Her speech seems incoherent at first (just '…?'), but with the Old Witch's Ring equipped, you may converse with her normally. She mistakes you for her sister, Chaos Witch Quelaag, as she is blind and confused, and Quelaag was the only one who visited (and could talk) to her.

This unnamed Daughter of Chaos once lived with her mother - the Witch of Izalith - and her siblings in the ancient city of Izalith. After the Flame of Chaos incident, her mother and many of her sisters were transformed into nefarious demons. She and her sister Quelaag escaped the worst of it; their lower torsos were mutated into giant arachnoid abdomens by the flames, but their upper bodies and their minds were seemingly unfazed. Fleeing their deranged, demonic kin, they climbed upward to the base of Blighttown and fashioned themselves a home. The precise details of what came next are only suggested at and implied by Eingyi. The Daughters of Chaos brought afflicted denizens of Blighttown with them as servants. Quelaag was unmoved by their suffering, but the Fair Lady wept for them. Overwhelmed by empathy, she did the only thing she could to help: she swallowed their blight pus, despite orders against such action from Quelaag. This cured the undead, but left the Fair Lady in her current state - perpetually near death, surrounded by eggs that will never bring life, and now, due to the actions of the player, completely and utterly alone.

Location

Quelaag's Domain

Invaders

Darkstalker Kaathe

Description

Like Kingseeker Frampt, Kaathe is a primordial serpent, but his intentions are very different from those of Frampt. He is the leader of the Darkwraiths and wants to see the Furtive Pygmy's plan come to fruition by recruiting undeads with the Darksign so that they can become the new Dark Lord, heralding the Age of Dark. It is implied that he is the one who manipulated the people of Oolacile to awaken Manus, and offered the art of lifedrain to the Kings of New Londo, making him indirectly responsible for both Oolacile's and New Londo's destruction.

Location

The Abyss

Kaathe can be found near The Abyss bonfire after you have defeated The Four Kings, provided that you haven't yet placed the Lordvessel on the Firelink Altar. He also appears if you have not yet retrieved the Lordvessel.

Use

Notes

Note: Kaathe will not provide this service.

Getting Kaathe's services without upsetting Frampt

  1. Beat The Four Kings.
  2. Rest at The Abyss bonfire.
  3. Talk to Kaathe until he transports you to the Firelink Altar.
  4. Do not place the Lordvessel in the altar. Instead, warp back to The Abyss bonfire by using Homeward or Homeward Bone.
  5. Talk to Kaathe, he'll offer you "the art of Lifedrain" (i.e., Darkwraith covenant).

Now you can upgrade the covenant level and buy Cracked Red Eye Orbs from him. After you're done, you can talk to Frampt and put the Lordvessel for Frampt. However, Kaathe will be upset and will leave for the rest of the playthrough.

Note: You can also get Kaathe's services prior to having the Lordvessel.

Invaders

Kirk, Knight of Thorns

Description

Kirk, Knight of Thorns is a black phantom NPC that invades three times throughout the game at different instances. By killing him all three times, you are able to obtain his armor, the Set of Thorns. He will invade your game at all of the three places, regardless of whether you defeated or were invaded by him previously. Even though he's described as a Darkwraith, Kirk is actually a Chaos Servant1, invading others to collect Humanity for The Fair Lady.

Location

The Depths
Once you have reached the bottom of the sewers from the water fall drop you will see him invade. This should be directly next to the basilisk area.

Demon Ruins
You will find him after defeating the Ceaseless Discharge.  Make your way to the now cooled lava ground, continue to the next area. You will go down some stairs on the side of a cliff and as you do this he will invade. Note that he only spawns after you put the Lordvessel on the Firelink Altar (the orange light barrier already gone allowing you to fight Demon Firesage).

Lost Izalith
You will find him just outside the doorway to the Bed of Chaos boss, where you fight the Daughter of Chaos.

Notes

Strategy

All her attacks are pretty slow due to the size of her weapon and can be easily dodged. So wait for her to charge up her attacks, get behind her and do as much damage as possible.
She staggers pretty easily with the right weapon. With enough stamina, one could end this fight fast.
Be wary of moving into the poison and of mosquitoes moving in to attack.

Convenient fighting ground Reach the bonfire just before Quelaag's lair as undead and regain your human form. Stay in the room with the bonfire, Mildred will invade you if you just step outside and wait a few seconds. Go back into the tunnel and the mosquitos will not follow you because they haven't seen you. Mildred will enter the room to fight you, you will have the advantage of room to move without getting poisoned by the swamp or bitten by the mosquitos. If this doesn't work out you will at least have died in spot where it is easy to collect your bloodstain.

Bug Notes

Sometimes Mildred can be stuck right after the fog gate in Quelaag's boss room and will roll around doing absolutely nothing useful for the remainder of the boss fight. If this happens, try drawing Quelaag towards her. With luck, the boss will aggro her and she will leave the gate to assist you as usual.

Description

It's the same piece of land you have to jump down onto (from the canyon you get to after climbing up and going through the hallway where the Prowling Demon is) to get a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier. His sign is on there near the corpse with the item.

Big Hat Logan

Description

Hailed as the greatest sorcerer from Vinheim Dragon School, "Big Hat" Logan left the Dragon School to Lordran in search for the legendary Regal Archives, which houses the knowledge of the Father of Sorceries.

Location

  1. Sen's Fortress
In a hidden area behind a sleeping Serpent Soldier. You need to adjust the boulder dispatch machine so that it will smash the wall with the Serpent Soldier leaning against it. Alternatively, that enemy can be baited into breaking the wall with some of his attacks (the thrust stab or the second hit of the normal sword sweep, for example).1 He is locked inside one of the hanging cages, and to open it you need the either the Cage Key2 or the Master Key. Once freed and spoken to, he will move to Firelink Shrine. If missed initially, he will still be located here even after killing the Iron Golem.
  2. Firelink Shrine
He will sell you some of his spells once he arrives here, but only if your Intelligence is at least 15 (though this limitation will be dropped if you meet him later). Logan remains in Firelink Shrine until one of the following occurs:
    • After obtaining the Lordvessel, Logan will have new dialog that states "I, too, will leave soon…" when you choose the "Leave" option from his interaction menu. Once that dialog has been triggered, Logan will permanently leave Firelink if you leave or return to Firelink in a particular manner.3
    • If you avoided his "I, too, will leave soon…" dialog, he will remain in Firelink Shrine until you've arrived at the prison area of The Duke's Archives.
  3. The Duke's Archives - prison tower cage
Once again he is trapped behind bars in the lower level of the prison area you reach after your first encounter with Seath the Scaleless, guarded by several Pisacas. You'll need to get the Archive Tower Giant Cell Key to unlock the cell, it's located behind the removable bookshelves leading to the Crystal Caves, right after the second bonfire. It's in the treasure chest closest to the lever that opens the descending staircase. Get back, unlock his cell and talk to him. He'll move to the book room.
  4. The Duke's Archives - book room
In a small room with the chest containing a Blue Titanite Chunk. The room entrance is near the tall ladder and the shortcut lever. You do not need to meet the Intelligence requirement to purchase his spells at this location. After you have defeated Seath the Scaleless and have bought all his spells, talk to him several times, and you'll notice that he's clearly gone mad. This triggers his next location, once you go through a loading screen (by quitting and reloading, using a Homeward Bone or using the Homeward miracle).
  5. The Duke's Archives - Seath's first encounter room
You'll find him standing around in the room half-naked, still wearing his hat. Defeat him and he'll drop the Big Hat, his Tin Crystallization Catalyst, and the White Dragon Breath spell. Also go back to the area where he was before, where he sells his spells, as there is a new chest containing the rest of his armor set, the Big Hat's set, and Logan's Catalyst. You may have to go through a loading screen for the chest to appear.

Further reading

Footnotes 1. Your own weapons are not capable of breaking the wall. 2. The Cage Key is found near the Crestfallen Merchant in the tower across the broken bridge before the Iron Golem. 3. Firelink needs to be left and returned to in such a way that it remains "queued" in the game's data. An example of this would be leaving or returning to Firelink on foot, such that a neighboring zone has a chance to recognize that Firelink's assets are present but not necessarily rendered. Warping directly to a distant location and back to Firelink will not allow that transitional loading of Firelink and will keep Logan present.
Merchants

Crestfallen Merchant

Description

A knight of Berenike, he braves Sen's Fortress to get into Anor Londo, like any other knights before him. But the failures of legendary figures like Rendal of Balder, Black Iron Tarkus, and even Logan of Vinheim makes him skeptical about this whole "Fate of the Undead" business. Now he sells gears stripped from the corpses of the knights he found in the Fortress.

Location

Sen's Fortress

At the very top of the fortress is a broken bridge which can be jumped across. It is not an easy jump, best to keep to the left hand side for extra foot space. If the player misses the jump, there is a large platform below with the Sniper Crossbow and some bolts. The fall is not fatal, just frustrating. The broken bridge is beyond the point where the Giant (the one on the top roof space) is throwing large flaming metal balls onto the ground. If you have reached the Giant or Iron Golem Boss, then you have gone too far.

Video showing how to reach him.

Domhnall of Zena

Description

A very odd merchant and the only character from the ancient land of Zena that the player encounters. His armor set pieces symbolize wisdom, glory, a vanquisher, and an explorer, but nothing specific about Domhnall is known. The crystal items that he sells suggest he may have explored The Duke's Archives.

Aye, siwmae. And good day to you.
I'm Domhnall of Zena. I'm just, well, a peddler, of sorts.
I adore trinkets and oddities, so I trade for them.

Aye, siwmae. Never thought I'd see you here.
This feels karmaic.
Pray tell, what do you have for me?

Aye, siwmae. I didn't expect to meet anybody here. I suppose great minds think alike, eh?

Aye, siwmae. We meet again.
Found anything special for my good self?
Mmm, I certainly hope so!

Hmm… I'm afraid I don't see anything here.
Hmm…Well, I'm certain we will make a good trade eventually…

So, I am willing to share some tips.
If you seek Kindling in the Catacombs, use divine weapons.
That will repel the reassembling skeletons.

Hmm… Well, I'm certain we will make a good trade eventually…
So, I am willing to share some tips.
The cursed Ghosts of New Londo are formidable foes.
To face them, you will require special arms… Or a cursed body.
The quickest way to be cursed? Try the bug-eyed lizards in the sewer.
Desperate measures, to be sure…

Hmm… You are a fine trading partner.
Rumour it may be, but I have heard of a surviving ancient dragon who resides in this land.
A coterie of Undead serves the dragon, as they train to become dragons themselves.
Sounds unlikely, but you never know, do you?

Well, that is a shame, then.
But no matter. No, not to worry.
Come back again. I'm always available.
Not every trade was meant to be.
There'll be more in store for us, someday, sometime!

Heh heh. Thank you.
That was a fine trade.
I have this funny feeling we'll meet again soon.
And we'll make another fine trade, of course!

Hold on, there! What's this about?
Now, stop that! Ouch! Oww!
What problem do you have now?
I'm a man of peace, idiot! Enough of you, I say, farewell.

By the Lords…why… My precious collection…

Dusk of Oolacile

Dusk in the Darkroot Basin
Dusk, after being rescued from Manus

Description

Dusk is a princess-sorceress from the long fallen land of Oolacile, where unique sorceries were crafted. At some point in the past, her home town was destroyed. It is unclear what caused the city to fall. At some point after this, she was trapped in a Golden Crystal Golem. Since the Crystal Golems are the results of Seath the Scaleless' experiments, it is likely that he is responsible for Dusk's imprisonment.

In the additional content, we get to see how her city was destroyed. During Dusk's time, Oolacile awakened Manus, Father of the Abyss at the urging of a Primordial Serpent. Manus then proceeded to spread the Abyss across the land and captured Dusk from the present time. The Knight Artorias, who arrived in Oolacile to repel the Abyssal forces, attempted to rescue her, but he was overwhelmed and became corrupted by the Abyss. She is finally rescued by the player after defeating Manus, although mentally scarred and incoherent from her experience. If you visit her in the Darkroot Basin after defeating him, she mentions being captured and being subsequently rescued by "Artorias", and having little memory of the event. She then realizes that your character was the one who rescued her, and not Artorias as she previously believed.

Location

Darkroot Basin
Her summon sign is right at the edge of the lake where the Hydra was located, a few feet away from the corpse holding the Knight Set, but only after killing the Hydra and defeating the Golden Crystal Golem she is captured in.

Chasm of the Abyss
Right after you defeated the boss, she will appear where the boss is killed. You can only speak to her, and when you leave the area, she will be back in Darkroot Basin.

Use

Getting Dusk as Merchant

  1. Kill the Hydra in the Darkroot Basin. This will spawn a Golden Crystal Golem in the alcove behind the Hydra.
  2. Travel along the lake by the waterfall all the way back to the alcove. Since you will be walking through water, it is recommended to equip the Rusted Iron Ring during this section.
  3. You should see the Golden Crystal Golem. If you don't see the Golem, try quitting and reloading.
  4. Defeat the golem. During its death animation, Dusk will appear where it was standing.
  5. Dusk will thank you for freeing her and asks you if you need her magic. Answer "Yes" and she will tell you that you can summon her to buy magic spells from her. If you answer "No" she will disappear and not be available for the rest of that playthrough.
  6. Now you can summon her via her summon sign.1 For some reason, it may occur that her summon sign will not be visible. It will, however, still be present in the water at the edge of the lake near the boulder, and it can be activated by moving around the area until the context menu for summoning her appears.

Eingyi

Description

Eingyi was a pyromancer from the Great Swamp. He was considered a heretic and banished from the Great Swamp after creating poison based pyromancies. After that, he came to Blighttown and became infected with parasites. The Fair Lady sucked the blight pus out of him, making herself sick in the process. This action greatly affects Eingyi, he became her servant and carries her egg to show his devotion to her.

Location

Quelaag's Domain
One floor below the Bell of Awakening, there's an illusory wall. Behind the illusory wall is the Daughter of Chaos bonfire. He's in that room with Quelaag's Sister.

Gaining His Trust

Talk to him after you contract the Parasite Egg. The second infection stage is enough (with the egg visible on your head). He'll be friendlier to you and he'll offer you his pyromancer services. Equipping the Old Witch's Ring, while making his dialogue friendlier, does not make him offer his services.

  1. Thou shalt see further on.
An abyss was begat of the ancient beast,
and threatens to swallow the whole of Oolacile.
Knight Artorias came to stop this,
but such a hero has nary a murmur of Dark.
Without doubt, he will be swallowed by the Abyss,
    overcome by its utter blackness.
…Indeed, the Abyss may be unstoppable…
Still I have faith, that Princess Dusk may be rescued yet…
  2. May the flames guide thee.
  3. Thou art from a time far, far ahead.
There are many things I wish to ask.
But I know that I must not.
The perils of our time are overwhelming enough.
  4. Hah hah…Was thine eye, glancing hither?
Though needst not hide thy wonder.
I am a mushroom, after all.
    Hee hee hee…
  5. Not long ago, I had another visitor.
A human like thineself, from a far-away time.
    Only, he was dreadfully odious…
And I am afraid that he is still amongst us.
He wore a hat and a long black coat…

Hawkeye Gough

Description

Hawkeye Gough is one of the Four Knights of Gwyn and the leader of the Greatarchers, who wielded giant bows that fired large, dragon-hunting arrows. Ironically, despite his name, he thinks he is blind, yet he still retains his impeccable accuracy. He wields his own unique greatbow and makes his own arrows to use with his bow. Nowadays, he spends his retirement making archtree carvings in Oolacile in the additional content.

Gough provides a huge amount of information for an NPC character. When spoken to, he makes numerous remarks about the state of affairs in Oolacile, and warns the player about Kalameet (but will assist by crippling him with an arrow if asked). He is grateful to the player for killing the corrupt Artorias, but in cut dialogue is saddened at the consideration of Ciaran ("the poor, poor girl"), suggesting Ciaran had unrequited romantic feelings for Artorias.

After killing Kalameet, Gough will thank the player and give him his greatbow.

Location

Royal Wood

After Knight Artorias's arena, facing the Oolacile Township, turn left and go up the stairs opposite to Battle of Stoicism Gazebo. Eventually you'll reach the hole in the ground, turn right here and cross the bridge leading to the door. To open it you'll need Crest Key found during Oolacile Township exploration. Gough will be waiting for you behind the door.

Laurentius of the Great Swamp

Location

The Depths
Located in a room near the second butcher. After taking care of the first butcher, go up the stairs after the area that is swamped with water. Trapped inside a barrel, Laurentius is located in a room to the left. Roll into the barrels to safely release him.

Firelink Shrine
After you rescued him, he'll sit on the ground near the entrance to Frampt.

Blighttown
If you talk to him while having a Pyromancy unique to Quelaana (e.g. Great Combustion, Fire Whip, etc.) or entered the Chaos Servant covenant (i.e. Great Chaos Fireball and Chaos Storm), he'll ask you how you got it. If you answer "Yes," he will leave Firelink Shrine and can be found hollowed in front of the lower Blighttown bonfire near the two Giant Mosquitoes.

Note: Be aware of his Blighttown question. You may simply answer "No" to his last question and he will stay at Firelink Shrine and continue selling pyromancies. Answering with "Yes," will lose you the ability to purchase Iron Flesh and Flash Sweat as neither Eingyi nor Quelaana sells you these. More importantly, this will also lose you access to him upgrading your Pyromancy Flame to +10 in order for Quelaana of Izalith to spawn; you would then have to ask Eingyi to do it.

Use

In order use his services, the correct answer to his first question ("Ah, unless you find the magics unsavoury?") is "No". If you answered "Yes" instead, the answer to his second question ("Oh, and er…if by chance you've had a change of heart, …") should be "Yes".

Patches

Description

"Trusty" Patches makes a return to the Dark Souls universe in style, making for a nice reminiscence for all Demon's Souls players. He's a thief, preying on unsuspecting victims by kicking them down into a pit. He (still) hates clerics.

Location

The Catacombs
He stands next to the lever of the second spiked bridge. He only appears in the Catacombs only if Rhea of Thorolund and her company has not gone there and before you kill Pinwheel. After either of those occur, he moves to the Tomb. He may try to flip the bridge the first time you walk across it. If you said "Yes" that you are a cleric, the next time you talk to him, he becomes hostile. If you said "No" that you are not a cleric, the next time you talk to him, he asks if his trickery caused you any trouble. If you answer "Yes", he gives you a Humanity. Any other response nets you nothing.

Tomb of the Giants
If you have not talked to him in the Catacombs, he will ask if you are a Cleric. He points to treasure visible from his position, and if you walk towards the ledge to take a closer look, he will kick you down into the pit. If you said "Yes" that you are a cleric, the next time you talk to him, he becomes hostile. If you said "No" that you are not a cleric, the next time you talk to him, he asks for your forgiveness. If you answer "No", he gives you a Twin Humanities. If you do choose to forgive him by saying "Yes", he will deploy prism stones further along the passage that highlights the route to a hidden bonfire.

Firelink Shrine
If he is not hostile and he is still alive, he squats down by a wall closest to the Catacombs after you have killed Gravelord Nito

Quelana of Izalith

Description

Quelana of Izalith is one of the daughters of the Witch of Izalith. When the Witch attempted to recreate the First Flame, she failed and instead created the Bed of Chaos. The effects of this failure mutated all of the citizens of Izalith into demons. Quelana was able to escape without any mutations, unlike her sisters and brother. This survivor guilt weighs heavily on her conscience, and she later asks the player to put her mother out of her misery.

For the pyromancers, Quelana is known as the Mother of Pyromancy. She is the teacher of the human world's greatest pyromancer, Salaman, who is also her first pupil. Your tutelage under her reminds her of her past with Salaman.

If you have fully upgraded the ascended Pyromancy Flame, learned all the pyromancies she offers, and defeated the Bed of Chaos she will disappear after thanking you.

Location

Blighttown

From the crude elevator in the swamp area, head towards Quelaag's Domain (to your right). Near the Cragspider, you'll see a pillar island with a corpse containing an item. If you have the necessary condition to trigger her appearance, she'll be sitting on the ground, leaning against the pillar.

Snuggly the Crow

Her nest

Description

Snuggly1 the Crow is an unseen NPC who talks with a crow-like cawing. When you approach her nest, she will ask for something "warm and soft". Trading with Snuggly the Crow is the same as trading with Sparkly the Crow in Demon's Souls.

Location

Undead Asylum

Snuggly's nest is located outside the Undead Asylum. Although Snuggly will be there when you begin at the Undead Asylum, you will have a very limited selection of items (depending on your starting gift) that Snuggly will accept as a trade. It will be on the left about halfway between your start point and the four torch-wielding Hollows, on a ledge off to the side (when you return to the Undead Asylum). Don't be confused by the nest used to transfer between the Undead Asylum and Firelink Shrine. When you find the right nest, you will hear Snuggly speaking. This nest is much smaller and off on a precarious ledge.

Notes

Bug Notes

There are some items not listed in the above trade list (e.g. Covenant of Artorias, Orange Charred Ring) that may make Snuggly trigger her "accept" dialogue, but don't give you any reward and causes you to lose the item. To prevent this, only trade items listed in the above list.

If you somehow lose an important item this way, not to fear as these items should be available in the "quest item" treasure chest near the pool of water/behind Kingseeker Frampt at Firelink Shrine.

Undead Merchant Female

Description

Like her male counterpart, she's also an Undead who has hollowed appearance, but is not fully hollow. She primarily sells moss she has grown herself behind the iron bars, and some other useful consumables.

Location

Undead Burg
Once you have the Basement Key you will be able to enter the locked door on the Hellkite Dragon bridge. Go through the door and work your way towards the final tower (opposite the door to The Depths) where a single Hollow archer is up on a platform. The merchant is in the aqueduct tunnel nearby. Remember to open up the two shortcuts that make accessing the lower Undead Burg easier; the first is up a staircase by the bottom of the long ladder from the hellkite bridge, the other is in the tunnel with the merchant and provides a quick route to the Firelink Shrine.

Video: Male Undead Merchant's Dialogues

Voiced by: Miles Richardson

Footnotes 1. It's never clear what Yulia is. His dialogues may indicate that Yulia is the uchigatana, but it's also possible that Yulia is the bucket, or an imaginary pet in the bucket. It could also be referring to the Undead Merchant Female, as her entrapment behind bars could indicate some forced separation of the two. 2. Additional Content only. 3. Additional Content only.
